Our breeding season is now underway with the first chick rung with ring number MIL1-223-11 (bearing in mind that the 2011 breeding season started with 80 chicks being rung on 2010 rings).

The fact is that with our birds coming into peak breeding condition in September, we can no longer wait to pair our birds so as to allow the first round chicks to be rung on current year rings. If the ring issue date were moved then this would not be a problem but this is an issue that has been debated for some time and it looks as though the existing date is hear to stay.

We would much rather have birds breeding in numbers and in accordance with their natural cycle at the cost of having one round of youngsters who will be ruled out as being shown as young birds in the forthcoming season.

We have noticed that the viewer count is rising and Barry will shortly have a live counter posted on this website.
